In this light-hearted musical Bing Crosby plays an American
gramophone salesman determined to sell one of his machines to the
Austrian Emperor. His plans change when he meets a young countess (Joan
Fontaine) and her pet poodle.
This film launches our series of movies that were nominated for the
Best Costume Oscar. The Academy first recognized costume designers in
1948, the year this film was made, and The Emperor Waltz was the first
nomination for the legendary Edith Head.
